Taking old and neglected drums, and giving them a chance to shine again is very much a part of Merrill Custom Drums!
Much of my work first learning the craft of drum building has come through the refurbishing of old drums, and bringing those drums up to contemporary standards. Removing old finishes and rewrapping drums, installing reinforcement rings, mounting new hardware and cutting of bearing edges, these are the services offered that will bring new life and musicality to older vintage sets.
A vintage early 1960's Slingerland transformed with new edges, matching seat and snare wrapped in Precision Drum's Black Diamond Pearl.
A vintage late 1960's Ludwig. Sadly, the shells had delaminated. So, this set was recreated with original lugs, new hoops, Keller American Vintage shells, and matching seat and snare wrapped in Jammin Sam's Vintage Black Diamond Pearl.
Cleveland Rogers Bass, Dayton and Fullerton Rogers tom and floor tom. NOS Rogers lugs, new hoops, recut bearing edges and original mounting hardware in Jammin Sam's stunning Tangerine Glitter. Matching 8 lug "Powertone" type snare to match.
